Abbreviated Accounts

A Company must file these Financial Statements at Companies House unless it qualifies to file Abbreviated Accounts.

There are two styles of Abbreviated Accounts. One for small companies and one for medium sized companies. All other companies must file the full Financial Statements. There are qualifying criteria set out in legislation to determine whether a Company qualifies as small or medium sized.

A Company that qualifies as small needs to prepare Abbreviated Accounts that are made up of:

  • Abbreviated Balance Sheet
  • Reduced set of statutory notes to the Abbreviated Accounts

A Company that qualifies as medium-sized needs to prepare Abbreviated Accounts that are made up of:

  • Chairman's Statement
  • Report of the Directors
  • Abbreviated Profit and Loss Account - Starting from Gross Profit
  • Abbreviated Balance Sheet
  • Abbreviated Cash Flow Statement
  • Abbreviated Statutory Notes to the Financial Statements

With effect for periods starting on or after 6 April 2008 a medium sized company must disclose turnover.
